Description:

Technical Advisor – Artificial Intelligence Engineer / Solution Architect

We are seeking experienced AI engineers and solution architects who are passionate about building trustworthy AI and ensuring technology is developed responsibly for the benefit of humanity.

This is an opportunity to help shape internationally recognized ethical AI guidance for one of the world's leading professional bodies.

Purpose of the Role

Provide practical technical expertise to ensure that ICF's ethical AI standards and governance recommendations are technically informed, implementable, future-focused, and aligned with emerging AI capabilities and risks.

You will help bridge the gap between ethical principles and real-world AI system design.

Key Responsibilities

  • Contribute technical expertise to the development of ethical AI standards and governance recommendations.
  • Review emerging AI technologies, architectures, and implementation patterns relevant to coaching and human development.
  • Identify technical risks, unintended consequences, and opportunities to strengthen client protection and human oversight.
  • Advise on AI assurance, safety, transparency, security, privacy, and governance mechanisms.
  • Participate constructively in discussions, reviews, and drafting activities.
  • Complete agreed actions and research between meetings.
  • Collaborate respectfully with a multidisciplinary international team.

Essential Experience

Applicants should have:

  • Current professional experience as an Artificial Intelligence Engineer, Machine Learning Engineer, AI Architect, Solution Architect, or similar technical leadership role.
  • Experience designing, implementing, or governing AI-enabled products or services.
  • Strong understanding of modern AI technologies, including large language models, agentic AI, retrieval systems, machine learning, and AI infrastructure.
  • Experience considering AI safety, security, privacy, governance, or responsible AI practices.
  • Ability to communicate complex technical concepts clearly to non-technical audiences.

Personal Attributes

We are looking for volunteers who:

  • Believe AI should serve humanity.
  • Care deeply about protecting human dignity, autonomy, trust, and wellbeing.
  • Value ethics as highly as innovation.
  • Are open-minded, collaborative, and respectful of diverse perspectives.
  • Are curious, thoughtful, and willing to challenge assumptions constructively.
  • Support the responsible use of AI rather than uncritical adoption or opposition.

Alignment with the ICF Code of Ethics and commitment to advancing AI in ways that protect clients, coaches, and society is essential.

Time Commitment

Volunteers should be able to commit to:

  • Virtual meetings every two weeks
    • 8:00–9:00 AM (Chicago, USA / Central Time)
  • Independent work between meetings, including research, document review, drafting, and feedback.
  • An average commitment of approximately 3–5 hours per month.

What You'll Gain

As a volunteer, you will:

  • Help shape the future of ethical AI within the global coaching profession.
  • Collaborate with leading experts from around the world.
  • Influence internationally recognized standards and governance.
  • Contribute to protecting people as AI becomes increasingly integrated into human development and coaching.
  • Join a community committed to ensuring AI advances human flourishing through responsible innovation.

If you are passionate about building AI that is trustworthy, human-centered, and ethically governed, we invite you to contribute your expertise to this important global initiative.
